Few months ago I started the process of cleaning out my closet of some very unnecessary items. In order for that to work, I also had to kick out my shopping habits that I’ve developed over the years. Not going to go into details and steps, I’m leaving that for another post.
When I was a teen, I used to spend so much time in front of my wardrobe and it always took me hours to choose the outfit for the day. Not counting the right shoes, jewelry and other accessories. I won’t even mention hair and make-up. As I got older, I started to realize that: a) the time I spend in front of my closet in the morning could be spent eating breakfast and b) I don’t have that kind of time to begin with. Basically, time and practicality are the two main reasons I decided it was time for a change. A change in both amount and colors of my clothes. I ditched those pieces that were too colorful, too quirky and couldn’t really be paired with anything else (and I somehow had a lot of those).
Since I had built somewhat cohesive wardrobe this past year, I wanted to introduce you to my wardrobe essentials. I reorganize my closet twice a year and pull the pieces I’d use and abuse for the season to the front of my closet. At the moment, basics are what I feel most comfortable in. The real summer weather has finally arrived and the hot, dry air makes me dizzy and, well, too lazy to get creative with my outfits. These days, I just go with cut offs, a basic cotton tee, sneaks and some simple jewelry.
